Women
Alsoooo, every single white lady out there who hasn’t needs to try latin dancing. It will make you look & feel like Shakira. 100% honesty here from former most awkward/ugly dancer at all social events.
I’m not quite to the level of twerking, but we’re working on it ;)
I finally went salsa dancing last night. I hadn’t danced for like 5 weeks. I didn’t want to go out. It was pouring down rain, I had a depressing week, nothing was going right and I just wanted to not talk to anyone and veg out like the inner fatty I am. But after I whined my friend still made me go and I had the. time. of. my. life. I’m so sore but I shook my ass from 10-2am in 3.5 inch heels and met a handsome grad student named Matt in my major who promised me information about his program & asked for my number.
Sigh.
Even if nothing comes of it, it made my night, certainly my weekend, and likely the feeling of content it brought me will carry me calmly through the last two weeks.
It’s the little decisions you make that can have the biggest impact sometimes.

- Don’t stare, it’ll make him feel different.
- Don’t make eye contact. Treat him like any other pedestrian walking by.
- Wait, now I’m not looking at him at all.
- Is that rude?
- Do I normally make eye contact with people?
- Maybe I’ll glance at his face for a second, but not too long.
- And I’ll avoid the arm.
- Just regular eye-to-eye.
- Okay… go!
- He knew.
- He knew I knew about his arm.
- He thinks I’m an asshole.
I go through this exact same thought process allll the time. There’s a student on campus who is under five feet tall and wears some sort of spinal protection contraption that looks like a full neck brace attached to crutches. I never know what to do!

Things get better
This music video came pre-loaded on the first laptop my dad ever got for work. It was 1994, and I was 4. And I will never ever forget laying in the living room watching it repeatedly and being so amazed.
